St Josephs Hospital MND Servcie
St Joseph’s Hospital Multidisciplinary MND Service is a joint initiative between St Joseph’s Hospital Medical Rehabilitation Service and Westmead Hospital Departments of Neurology and Respiratory Medicine, with support from the MND Association of NSW. The service provides ongoing support for the rehabilitation and palliative care needs of patients via monthly clinics, inpatient admissions and/or referrals to external community services. Patients have access to a wide variety of Health Professionals, including: Neurologist, Rehabilitation Specialist, Sleep & Respiratory Failure Registrar, Care Coordinator, Clinical Nurse Specialist, Dietitian, Occupational Therapist, Palliative Care CNC, Pastoral Care, Physiotherapist, Social Worker and Speech Pathologist.
Bethlehem Hospital in Melbourne provides a comprehensive assessmnet and treatment service for patients with MND. It is staffed by full team of allied health professionls including, Speech therapy, Physiotherapy, Social Work, Occupational Therapy and Dieteicians. The attending physicians include Neurologists, Respiratory Physicans and Psychiatrists.
Multidisciplinary Motor Neuron Disease Clinic
The Multidisciplinary MND service established with the support of the NSW MNDA evolved in early 2004 from previous MND services at the Institute of Neurological Sciences at POWH, dating back to 1994.
The Motor Neurone Disease (MND) Clinic at the Royal Brisbane & Women’s Hospital (RBWH) commenced in late 2003. Staff attending the clinic are Dr Rob Henderson (Neurologist), Dr Pam McCombe (Neurologist), Dr Carol Douglas (Palliative Care Physician), Mrs Veronica Connors (CNC Palliative Care Service) and Ms Nicole Hutchinson (Research Nurse). External referrals are made to Thoracic/Sleep Medicine services at the Prince Charles Hospital and the Princess Alexandra Hospital, as well as Gastroenterology services. Allied Health services are also referred within the local community.
